In the U.S., as many as one out of five people have mental health issues that impact their lives significantly every day. And the World Health Organization reports that a suicide happens every 40 seconds across the globe. Join your fellow BAE Systems colleagues in recognizing World Mental Health Day on October 10, and help remove the stigma surrounding mental health.
Recognize potential signs of a mental health issue
The National Alliance on Mental Illness notes that while there’s no test to fully determine if someone is dealing with a mental health issue or struggling emotionally, there are key signs to look for, including:
- Expressing the desire to self-harm
- Excessive worrying or fear
- Feeling really sad or low
- Confused thinking or problems concentrating and learning
- Extreme mood changes, including uncontrollable highs or lows
- Avoiding friends and social activities
- Changes in sleeping habits, or feeling tired and low energy
- Changes in eating habits, such as increased hunger or lack of appetite
At BAE Systems, every one of our employees and their family members matters. Whether you’re struggling personally or have a family member who is, we offer resources that can help.
The Employee Assistance Program (EAP), provided through Cigna, offers you options to help you work through a mental health issue. The EAP is free to you and your covered family members, regardless of the medical coverage you have.
Did you know that sleep can affect your well-being, including your mental health? And did you know it can affect how you deal with problems and interact with others? If you’re not getting the sleep you need—and you’re a Cigna medical plan member—let Sleepio help you get back on track.
Don’t forget that you also have options for taking time off (and away from work) to address the mental or physical health issues you or a loved one is having.
Additional resources that can help
Each month, the Cigna EAP presents "We Can Help You With That" webinars. As a BAE Systems employee, you can attend for free. See what’s coming soon, and sign up for one or more, depending on your concerns and interests.
