Three steps to take now to ensure you receive the right care

What you need to know

As we continue to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic, you may be questioning how you should get care in the near future. It’s important that you don’t avoid the ER when you need emergency care or skip seeing your doctor or therapist altogether. Your BAE Systems medical benefits provide you with a range of care options, whether that’s in-person care or from the comfort of your home.

Consider these three steps you can take to ensure that you’re getting the right care at the right time in the right place.

1. Make the call (or click).

Physical health

Before making a decision, call your primary care physician. If you don’t have a primary care physician or if the office is closed, call Cigna’s 24-hour health information line, or connect with a board-certified doctor through virtual care. If you’re experiencing signs of a heart attack, stroke, or a hypertensive crisis, call 911.

Mental health

This is an overwhelming time for all of us, and safeguarding your mental health is more important than ever. If you need help managing your stress, addiction, a difficult family situation, or a lingering mood, help is only a click or call away. Cigna medical plan members have access to two tele-behavioral health services. Not a Cigna medical plan member? You can still access the same quality mental health services through Cigna’s Employee Assistance Program (EAP). If you're experiencing suicidal thoughts, dial 988 to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.

2. Discuss your options with your health provider.

Physical health

If your options are complex, you don’t have to make the decisions on your own—Cigna One Guide’s concierge service is here to help. Cigna One Guide offers personalized support to help you better understand and navigate your care. With just one call or click, you can connect with Cigna One Guide to ensure you’re getting the best care and the maximum benefits from your BAE Systems medical plan.

Mental health

Talk to your primary care doctor or another health professional about how you’re feeling and/or what struggles you’re facing. Ask them to connect you with the right mental health services. If you don’t feel comfortable speaking with your doctor or another health professional, you can call the Cigna EAP at 1-800-591-9339 to discuss your situation confidentially and for free.

3. Get the care you need.

Physical health

When an emergency strikes, you’re safest at a hospital—pandemic or not. If you’re experiencing symptoms of something serious, such as a heart attack or stroke, call 911 or go to the ER immediately.

If you’re considering postponing that mammogram, colonoscopy, or other routine screening, consult your doctor before you postpone the appointment.

Getting care through Cigna’s EAP? You and members of your household have ten free and confidential one-on-one sessions per issue per year with a licensed behavioral health provider. Close to using all ten sessions? The EAP’s licensed clinicians can refer you to additional resources if needed.

If your issue can’t wait, dial 988 to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
