What you need to know
It can pay to plan for the unexpected. If you’re ill or injured and need to miss work, BAE Systems will pay you a portion of your salary through short-term disability (STD) coverage. Some employees are automatically enrolled, while others must voluntarily elect this coverage. Long-term disability (LTD) is also available for additional protection.
Short-term disability (STD) coverage
With some exceptions, you are automatically enrolled in no-cost STD coverage, which provides income protection for up to 26 weeks if you are unable to work due to illness or injury. Ship Repair employees must elect coverage. For more information about your STD benefits, visit the BAE Systems Resource Center portal and look at the "Medical Leave" section. You must be on the BAE Systems network to access the Resource Center portal.
Long-term disability (LTD) coverage
You can choose to enroll in LTD coverage, which provides income protection if you are still unable to work after 26 weeks of continuous disability. You may choose between two different levels of coverage:
- 50% salary replacement; or
- 66 2/3% salary replacement.
Each option has a maximum benefit of $20,000 per month for the duration of your disability.
