What you need to know
Paid Time Off (PTO) provides you with paid time away from work that you can use for vacation, personal time, personal illness, or to care for dependents. You can accumulate up to a maximum of 400 PTO hours.
Paid Time Off (PTO)
How much PTO you accrue depends upon how long you’ve worked for BAE Systems. Eligible part-time employees earn prorated PTO based on scheduled work hours. For details about PTO, please visit the Time Away from Work page on the BAE Systems Resource Center portal. You must be on the BAE Systems network to access the Resource Center portal.
New hires and rehires
Most new hires and rehires are granted a lump sum of hours equal to 26 weeks of PTO based on their business’s accrual schedule at the time of hire or rehire. Rehires receive credit for prior BAE Systems service when calculating their accrual tier. After completing 26 weeks of service, you will begin accruing PTO weekly.
Other time off
Your business may provide additional time-off benefits, which could cover things such as bereavement and jury duty, etc.
PTO Buy Program
Eligible employees can purchase up to 40 additional hours of PTO either as a new hire (if you become benefits-eligible prior to October 1) or during a separate enrollment period in December of each year to be used the following year.
How it works
- IRS rules regarding these types of programs require that you first use all accrued PTO hours before you can use any purchased hours. Payroll will refund the value of any purchased hours remaining in your account as of mid-January of the following year. These are important points to consider, since employees with low PTO balances could end up with zero hours in their PTO accounts following the required payout and before any newly purchased hours would become available in early March. In certain circumstances, this could cause an interruption in your access to PTO hours between mid-January and early March.
- The value of unused, purchased hours is determined in mid-January, and any remaining purchased hours will become unavailable. Depending on your payroll schedule, the hours are paid out by the end of February. If you purchase PTO hours, you’ll receive reminders during the year, so you can plan your time off.
- Generally, the program runs from March 1 until January 15 of the following year. However, the actual dates are determined by the annual payroll calendar for each payroll schedule.
