What you need to know
If you experience the loss of a family member, BAE Systems provides you with time away from work to mourn the loss of your loved one.
Full-time regular employees will be granted up to five days of paid leave upon the death of your:
- Spouse or same-sex domestic partner
- Mother or father
- Mother-in-law or father-in-law
- Son or daughter
- Son-in-law or daughter-in-law
- Sister or brother
- Stepsister, stepbrother, or stepparent
Full-time regular employees will be granted up to three days of paid leave upon the death of your:
- Grandmother or grandfather
- Grandmother-in-law or grandfather-in-law
- Brother-in-law or sister-in-law
- Grandson or granddaughter
- Uncle or aunt
- Nephew or niece
- Spouse’s uncle or aunt
- Spouse’s nephew or niece
Note: If you’re covered by a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), your benefits may vary from what’s described here. Please refer to your CBA for details.
Taking Bereavement Leave
You do not have to take the days consecutively, but you must complete your Bereavement Leave within 30 days following the family member’s death. Your supervisor will approve your leave, and you must record the time you take as Bereavement Leave, according to the Timekeeping Guidelines.
Note: Bereavement Leave does not run concurrently with a family medical leave. If you’re a part-time employee, Bereavement Leave is available on a prorated basis, which directly corresponds with your regularly scheduled work hours.
