What you need to know
BAE Systems benefits support you wherever you are in your journey. As a BAE Systems employee, you have a range of plans and programs to support you for the journey ahead.
If you’re covered by a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), your benefits may vary from what’s described here. Please refer to your CBA for details about your benefits, including eligibility.
Changes for 2020
You can cover domestic partners and/or their child(ren)*
Starting January 1, 2020, same-sex and opposite-sex domestic partners and/or their child(ren) are eligible for medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and other benefit plans and programs.
This change supports our commitment to a diverse and inclusive workplace where people of all backgrounds are respected and treated equally. It’s also another step in our overall diversity and inclusion journey to create a workplace where everyone feels they belong and can be their best.
If you'd like to cover your domestic partner and/or his/her child(ren) in 2020, contact the BAE Systems Benefit Center. You'll be required to submit supporting documentation that verifies their status as your domestic partner and/or child(ren), as applicable. If you don’t provide required documentation to the BAE Systems Benefit Center within 60 days, your coverage will be dropped.
*TRICARE does not cover domestic partners/children.
Employee contributions for medical insurance are based on salary ranges. Every few years, we review our salary bands based on changes at the company and in the market. Given the diverse roles of our workforce and salary distribution, the salary ranges for 2020 will reflect the following tiers:
- Less than $50,000
- Greater than $75,000
Depending on the medical plan you choose, whom you choose to cover, and which salary range you will be in for 2020, you may see an increase or a decrease in premiums. Visit BenefitsNavigator to review your 2020 elections and costs.
The Health Plus plan out-of-pocket maximums changed
To align the Health Plus and the Core Plus plans, the out-of-pocket maximum in the Health Plus plan is $3,750 (single coverage) and $7,500 (family coverage) in 2020.
More money to spend on eyeglass frames
The frame allowance for both vision plans is higher:
- VSP Choice: Increased from $125 to $175
- VSP EasyOptions: Increased from $200 to $225
Deadlines to keep in mind
Earning and submitting HSA wellness incentives
In order to receive wellness incentives in your Health Savings Account (HSA) for 2020, incentives must be processed by Cigna no later than the end of November 2020.
Keep in mind, it may take 3 to 4 weeks for Cigna to process your incentives, so the earlier you complete and submit your wellness incentives, the better.
Incentives not processed before the deadline will be credited toward your 2021 HSA (this is a change from our current practice). This will ensure we report accurate information on your W-2. Incentives under the Health Plus plan Health Reimbursement Account (HRA) can continue to be earned through the end of the year.
Biometric screenings with annual physicals
In past years, biometric screenings completed on or after October 1 counted toward the current and next year’s biometric wellness incentive.
To promote well-being and encourage you to stay healthy every year, biometric screenings and physicals now count toward incentives for one year only. This means that if you have a biometric screening and physical from October through December 2019, it will not count for 2020.
To earn your 2020 incentives, you need to complete a biometric screening and physical in 2020.

Save even more in 2020
If you have a Health Savings Account (HSA), you can contribute even more this year. If you enrolled in the Core Plus plan, here’s how the math works:
|Individual coverage||Family coverage|
|Your 2020 maximum contribution||Under age 55: $3,150
Age 55+: $4,150
|Under age 55: $6,300
Age 55+: $7,300
|Wellness Incentive Program awards||$400||$800|
|2020 IRS maximum||Under age 55: $3,550
Age 55+: $4,550
|Under age 55: $7,100
Age 55+: $8,100
HSA contributions and earnings are not subject to federal taxes; however, a few states treat the contributions as taxable income. Those employees residing in California and New Jersey will have applicable state taxes withheld from their contributions each pay period. Employer wellness incentives to the HSA are also subject to state taxes in these two states.
Note: If you are married and your spouse is also enrolled in an HSA, your combined HSA contributions may not exceed IRS limits.
Increase in Health Care FSA contributions
Contribute up to $2,700 a year (an increase from $2,650) to your Health Care Flexible Spending Account (FSA) in 2020. Plan carefully, as this is a use-it-or-lose-it account. You must use your FSA funds by December 31, and you have until April 30 of the following year to submit your claims for reimbursement. For example, 2019 expenses must be submitted by April 30, 2020.
Keep in mind: If you are enrolled in the Core Plus plan, Health Care FSA contributions may only be used for eligible dental and vision expenses.
Three things to keep in mind about your medical coverage
If you enrolled in a high-deductible health plan, you are responsible for paying the full cost of medications until you reach the annual deductible. Take a look at how the high-deductible health plan works.
If you enrolled in a high-deductible health plan, you have a powerful savings vehicle through the HSA. With an HSA, you can pay for eligible medical, dental, vision, and prescription drug expenses with tax-free dollars. You can also use your HSA dollars to pay Long-Term Care premiums and expenses.
