Medical plans overview

What you need to know

Our Cigna medical plans protect both your health and your finances. You can choose between two different plans. The Core Plus plan has lower payroll deductions, but you’ll pay more when you receive medical care. With the Health Plus plan, you’ll pay more out of your paycheck in exchange for a lower deductible.

Health Plus and Core Plus

You can choose between two different health plans: Health Plus and Core Plus. Both plans:

Cover the same health care services and prescription drugs.

Cover most medical services at 80% after deductible when you see Cigna doctors and other providers and at 60% when you see out-of-network providers.

Offer 100% coverage for preventive care (no deductible or out-of-pocket cost to you for annual physical exams, lab tests, and age-appropriate screenings).

Offer the flexibility to see doctors and other providers both inside and out of the Cigna network and self-refer to specialists.

Give you the opportunity to earn incentive dollars from BAE Systems in a Health Savings Account (HSA) or Health Reimbursement Account (HRA) through the Wellness Incentive Program. You can use these funds to cover your initial out-of-pocket expenses, such as the deductible.

Feature 24/7 care through telehealth services that let you connect with a board-certified doctor through video chat without leaving your home or office.

Cover treatment for minor illnesses or routine vaccinations through retail clinics or walk-in clinics, such as CVS, Walgreens, Walmart, and Target.

Use Cigna’s Open Access Plus provider network.

Offer you access to Cigna’s wellness programs, including personal health coaches and the Cigna 24-Hour Health Information Line featuring live support.

San Diego Ship Repair Production employees: You also have the option to enroll in the Kaiser Southern California HMO plan, in addition to the Cigna medical plans.

Use a Center of Excellence for certain surgical procedures

Some hospitals specialize in specific care and procedures, and it’s important to go to the right place to get the care you need. If you need surgery, such as bariatric, joint replacement, or cardiovascular surgery, use a Center of Excellence. Cigna representatives will help you research your options.

What’s the difference between the plans?

There are five key differences:

1. Wellness incentives

You and your covered spouse can each earn incentive dollars from BAE Systems for completing Wellness Incentive Program activities. You can use these funds to cover the deductible and to pay your share of medical expenses.

Core Plus: Earn up to $400 if you have individual coverage and $800 if you have employee plus spouse coverage in a Health Savings Account (HSA).

Health Plus: Earn up to $800 if you have individual coverage and $1,600 if you have employee plus spouse coverage in a Health Reimbursement Account (HRA).

2. Deductible

This is the amount you pay out of pocket before the plan begins to cover services. Your deductible depends on which medical plan you select, how many people you cover, and whether you use in- or out-of-network services.

3. Out-of-pocket maximum

This provides financial protection to you if you have high health care costs. It’s the most that you’ll pay (including the deductible) in a year for medical and prescription drug expenses.

4. Payroll deductions

Core Plus: Lower payroll deductions in exchange for a higher deductible and out-of-pocket maximum.

Health Plus: Higher payroll deductions in exchange for a lower deductible.

5. Prescription drug coverage

Core Plus: Covered at 80% after you meet the deductible.

Health Plus: Covered by a copay with no deductible.

Before enrolling in the Core Plus plan

If you are eligible or enrolled in Medicare or enrolled in TRICARE, you should not participate in the Core Plus plan due to IRS restrictions on participating in a Health Savings Account (HSA). Please contact the BAE Systems Benefit Center to discuss other options available to you.
