Other types of leave

What you need to know

You may be eligible for other types of leave, such as Federal Paid Sick Leave or State leaves, depending on your employment status and where you live.

Federal Paid Sick Leave

Federal contractors are required to provide paid sick leave to certain employees when they support contracts that are subject to the Service Contract Act or the Davis-Bacon Act and that contain certain other provisions.

Federal Paid Sick Leave allows eligible employees to take paid time off to address your or a covered relative’s existing health condition or preventive health care, or if you or a covered relative are a victim of domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking.

Mandated state leaves

Certain state laws require BAE Systems to provide Paid Sick Leave (PSL) or Paid Family Leave (PFL) to eligible employees for various purposes. PSL and PFL generally allow you to take paid time off to care for your own health needs or to care for a qualified family member with health issues. Most commonly, you can take PSL or PFL to care for a parent, child, spouse, domestic partner, and sometimes a grandparent, grandchild, sibling, or other individual.

Banked time

BAE Systems does not provide Banked Time in addition to the other time off and flexibility that is offered. Recognizing the need for an adequate transition period, exempt employees may continue to participate in Banked Time, which allows employees to bank hours worked over 40 in a week (up to 16 hours at any time). The banked 16 hours may then be used to take time off when needed, with manager approval. Beginning in 2025, you will be able to bank 16 hours once, to use at a later date; you may not refill your Banked Time beyond the initial 16 hours. You may not record negative Banked Time. This Banked Time program will continue through November 2025, at which point it will no longer be available.

Leave without pay (LWOP)

You may record leave without pay for time that is not covered by a paid leave. Through the end of 2024, employees will be able to draw down from the 80-hour annual limit. Beginning in 2025, employees will follow BAE Systems standard leave without pay program which requires employees to draw their PTO balance down to 40 hours or to the state-approved cap first (the current cap is 48 hours for Colorado; 64 hours for New Mexico), before recording LWOP.
