Nutrition tips
The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics recommends the following nutrition tips to help you incorporate healthy habits into your daily lifestyle:
- Eat a rainbow of foods. Include a variety of fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, whole grains, and healthy fats in your diet.
- Be mindful of portion sizes. MyPlate calculates the number of calories needed per day from the food groups based on your age, height, weight, and other personal factors.
- Read food labels to understand the nutritional content of the food you are buying and be mindful of serving sizes to avoid overconsumption.
- Drink more water throughout the day to stay hydrated instead of choosing drinks with added sugars.
- Make an effort to reduce food waste by considering the foods you have on hand before buying more and take the time to plan your meals to help make healthier choices.
- Consult with a nutritionist. Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDNs) and Nutrition and Dietetics Technicians (NDTRs) can provide tailored advice on nutrition and weight management.
