International medical coverage

What you need to know

Whether your travel is for work or leisure, you have medical coverage available to you anywhere in the world.

International assignments

If you accept an international work assignment, you may be provided with international medical coverage through Cigna Global. Coverage begins on the start date of your international assignment (the date you depart from the U.S.) and continues for the duration of your international assignment. You will be offered coverage in either the Cigna Deployed Medical Plan or the Cigna Expatriate Medical Plan, depending on the length of your assignment, the location, and whether or not your dependents accompany you.

Cigna Deployed Medical Plan

If you are deploying for less than two years or to a dangerous location and your dependents are not accompanying you, you will be enrolled in “employee only” coverage in the Cigna Deployed Medical Plan at no cost to you. The Cigna Deployed Medical plan provides international medical coverage only.

Cigna Expatriate Medical Plan

If your international assignment is longer than two years or your dependents are accompanying you, you will be offered the option to enroll in the Cigna Expatriate Medical Plan and will be responsible for paying the premiums for this coverage. The plan includes U.S. and international medical, dental, and vision coverage for you and your dependents.

Under both plans, you have access to Cigna’s international network of doctors and hospitals. Once enrolled in the plan, you will receive an email from Cigna Global that will provide you with the following information:

Instructions on how to access the Cigna web portal, called Cigna Envoy, where you can print a temporary ID card. A hard copy of your Cigna ID card will be mailed to your address on file with the BAE Systems Benefit Center. You may receive a second ID card depending on the location of your assignment for use while overseas.

Tools to help you during your international assignment, including health and claim management tools, country guides to learn about general cultural and practical health information, and a medical translation tool for translations of pharmaceutical terms, medical terms, and phrases into the local language.
